Football United was launched in 2004 with the help of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and The English Football Association to promote public diplomacy and help develop grassroots football in Iraq.
The porject delivered capacity building and train-the-trainer events with a total spend of over USD$650k throughout the term of the programme. Project trained over 200 Iraqi community coaches and thousands of youngsters in Iraq. Held a national tournament for under-15s throughout Iraq.
As Project Director, I was responsible for coordinating training clinics and academies in the UK and the Middle East, negotiating additional corporate funding through sponsorship as well as implementing a media strategy. I also reported to all stakeholders throughout the term of the project.
